The overall aim of the National Lung Cancer Audit (NLCA) is to drive improvements in lung cancer care and outcomes by bringing the standard of all lung cancer teams up to that of the best. The NLCA evaluates the process of care, treatment delivered and outcomes for lung cancer patients treated in secondary/tertiary care NHS hospitals in England and Wales. The audits specific objectives are to investigate:
- Service delivery and organisation of care in England and Wales
- The characteristics of patients newly-diagnosed with lung cancer
- The diagnostic and staging process and initial treatment planning
- The initial treatments that patients receive
- The experiences of patients receiving care and their outcomes following treatment
- Overall and disease-free survival
